We both slept late Sunday morning. After we lazed around a bit, enjoying the comforts of the heater, we took a 3-mile stroll along the visitor center trail.
On our way to the trail, we checked on our empty porcupine traps. We also stopped and checked out several birds as we were walking along the trail from the fire center.
We watched one of the juvenile eagles fly across the water to where its parent was perched on a platform. It flew to the perch and the parent appeared to give it a tasty treat.. The juvy was very vocal flying across the water for it's reward.
We found some snails in the shallow water along the boardwalk.
We relaxed a bit, then took another stroll to the observation tower. This is the second time that I have walked on the tower, and the third time for Lauren. It was a nice view on this 80 degree day with no pesky bugs bothering us.
We spent the rest of the afternoon relaxing at Camp Chewy.
Monday was a full day of soapwort spraying. We had a couple of delays getting started. One was when we waited for a garter snake to fall out of the roll up door.
Another delay was getting a squirrel out of the porcupine trap. It held on and was persistent about leaving the trap. Finally, it was coaxed out of it. Silly Squirrel.
We had another snake encounter along Grand Dike Road/20th street. Some kind of snake slithered between my feet. My quess it was another Garter Snake. Afterwards, Lauren was rolling up the hose which happened to be between my feet, which I thought was the snake. I laughed pretty hard when I realized it wasn't.
After 8/2 hours we are back and relaxed at camp.
Tuesday was another soapwort buster kind of day. We thought we would do a quick trip up to Boghunter Trail, then to Suk Cerney. There was more soapwort than we thought we would find. Around 11ish Lauren went to Mauston for truck repairs while Sarah and I continued on.
We saw a cute little porcupine along the road as well. They sure are cute when they are not eating your property.
It was hot out on the Suk Cerney Dike, but we got it done.
We picked up Lauren a couple of hours later and continued with the soapwort spraying. The soapwort busters have it going on.
We were supposed to start our vacation to Door County on Wednesday, but Mother Nature changed our plans. Instead, we spent the day spraying soapwort.
Being there was just the two of us, we took a camera with us. We only got a few pictures. Dang this work is interfering with our photography.
We saw a banded pigeon on the road between the Observation Tower and Camp Chewy. It was sporting off it's bling bling.
Thursday. we got another reinforcement of why we didn't need to go to Door County on vacation. It was one of those rainy, stay inside, kind of days.
We were pleasantly surprised to wake up to sunshine Friday morning. We strolled around for a couple of hours getting some nature chasing in.
There were lots of pollinators hanging around the pretty blooms allowing us ample time to practice our bumble bee identifications.
The clouds were back Saturday. We enjoyed our nature chasing stroll in the cooler temps and almost needed a jacket.
The afternoon we did a Wally World run, then a short drive getting a few nature shots in.
