Necedah National Wildlife Refuge - 7-28-24 - 8-3-24

We got our week started on Sunday with a 3-mile stroll.

We saw a majestic Eagle perched in a tree.

And lots of pollinators enjoying all the pretty blooms.

We also saw a few dragonflies and a bullfrog.

It was a very nice walk with less of those annoying mosquitos and gnats.

Sunday Pics:

Monday, we spent the day with Angie.  We checked on some water structures and did a butterfly survey in the North unit.

We saw Ring-necked gulls sitting on the same water structure they were on yesterday.  They were in sequence as far as head position except one that was quite a bit mouthy.

While we were out and about, we did our usual nature chasing, seeing Cedar Waxwings

Lots of pollinators

White Pelicans

Trumpeter Swans

A Bald Eagle

But only saw a few Karrner Blues on this hot day.

Monday Pics:

Tuesday, we spent the morning doing some grass cutting at camp.  The afternoon we got some wind therapy riding to the Harley Shop in Mauston then having lunch at Culver's. Our first Culver's experience was a great one.

Wednesday was bee survey day.  Some of the ICF peeps joined us and the USFWS bee survey leader.  It was a fun day of netting bees and identifying the species.

Before the survey, we went scouting for a location to do the survey.

We stopped to admire, (and photograph), a couple of Whooping Cranes.

We also admired a nice buck that was standing behind the cranes in the tall grass.

We, or rather Lauren, was very excited to net a Southern Plains Bumblebee during the survey.  A some what common find down south, but very uncommon here.

The afternoon was spent relaxing inside, on this hot, 93-degree day.

Wednesday Pics:

Thursday was a rainy morning.  We did a few indoor work chores then we were going to take a walk along the trails.  The on and off showers kept us close to camp and a short truck ride.

Thursday Pics:

Friday, we enjoyed a stroll around the Visitor Center on the Muskrat and Karner Loop trails.  There were lots of bugs, a few frogs, a turtle, and a few blooms for us to enjoy.

Friday Pics:

Saturday, we saw a few critters when we walked to check the porcupine traps.

Angie and Chad came over for burgers this afternoon.  Afterwards we enjoyed ice cream and a game of cards.
