Winter Texans - Moved to Crane City (12-27-23 - 12-30-23)

Wednesday, we moved to St. Charles Bay RV Park.  We are set up for a month.  We are parked right across the street from the bay with access to a pier and a swimming pool.  And the main draw, we are within walking distance of Crane City; 8th Street Wildlife Viewing Area.

The minute we got out of the truck, we could hear the whoops of the Whooping Cranes.  What a welcome!!

When we walked by the fish cleaning station on the pier, a Great Blue Heron blocked the walkway.  I believe he has had a few handouts.

We took a stroll to Crane City to see some Whooping Cranes and Sandhill Cranes.  This is our kind of place.

We got a good hot shower, got our clothes washed, then lounged around listening to the elusive calls of the cranes.  Something that always brings a smile to our face!

Wednesday Pics:

We stayed on the move enjoying nature and got behind on our blog for Thursday through Sunday.  Here are the pictures and a brief summary of our days.

Thursday, we got up early on this chilly morning and checked out the sunrise.

We got our morning Crane fix in then headed to Goose Island State Park.

Some of the highlights were:

White-tailed Deer with nice racks!

Ruby-crowned Kinglet

Black-crested Titmouse

After we returned, we enjoyed a little bit of bay wildlife then relaxed by the pool.

Thursday Pics:

We got in about 4 miles of walking and a lot of nature chasing along the bay and 8th Street on this breezy Friday.

We finally saw some Whoopers hanging around in the bay, even though there were way far away.

Friday Pics:

Saturday started out with another pretty sunrise.

We stayed around camp getting in about 4 miles of strolling on another windy day.

We noticed an Osprey bringing in nesting material.  They nest a lot sooner here than in Mississippi.
