It was nice sleeping in Sunday morning and opening the blind to see turkeys in the yard. It was also nice to watch deer and turkeys as we drank our morning coffee.
We took a longer stroll today for our nature chasing at the refuge. There were wasps, bees, and flies enjoying the blooms, most of them were on Golden rod.
We thought that all the bumblebees were gone except for the Common Eastern, but we thought wrong. There were a few Tri-colored and Half-black Bumblebees flitting around today.
The swans and waterfowl moved to the overlook along the visitor center trail.
But, there were still plenty of Bullfrogs hanging around the boardwalk.
We made a walk out to the Little Yellow Bridge and saw an Eastern Phoebe and a American Redstart.
We saw a pretty nice buck near the campground entrance on the way back to camp.
The afternoon was spent lazing around catching up on the blog and our pictures and going for ice cream for lunch.
Monday we spent the day spraying Soapwort and taking a few pictures along the way.
Tuesday, Lauren rode the tractor all day cutting the hunter parking areas.
I went on an impromptu tour. Sally and I were co-guides with the self proclaimed rowdy bunch. We all had a good time.
I spent the afternoon picking up litter on HQ and Grand Dike Road.
Wednesday we put together new picnic tables for Camp Chewy. While we were doing this we saw a pretty Leopard Frog.
We helped the ICF crew with a flat tire then spent the afternoon at Sandhill State Wildlife Area with our personal tour guide. A very nice adventure.
Thursday, Lauren cut grass in the hunter parking lots. Angie and I went looking for Blanding's Turtles. We found plenty of turtles, just not our target species.
The Sandhill Cranes have started to gather. We saw 15 of them hanging around on the bank of Pool 1.
Lauren and I relaxed at Camp Crane for the rest of the day.
Friday was our day off. We woke up to a Possum in the porcupine trap at Camp Chewy.
The tree demolition has moved to Camp Chewy.
We spent the morning strolling around the visitor center trail, seeing some cool stuff along the way.
The afternoon we loaded up and went to Angie and Chad's for the weekend. We put those gift certificates that we won on the Poker Run to good use. We had drinks at My Second Home and Friday fish fry at Rustic Haven. Pretty good winnings!
Saturday, we lounged around the morning then went to an Apple Orchid and Weavers. Our first apple orchid visit was impressive, getting some apple yummies then stocking up at Weavers on our favorite sweets and chips.
The night was spent playing cards until midnight.
