The start of the week, was a little bit different than usual. Lauren got up around 6ish. After he got up, I thought I heard the Cranes a calling, and then realized it was still dark, and went back to sleep.
About an hour later, Ferny Kat snuggled up in the bed with me, which is very unusual. A little bit later she softly meowed. I tried to play possum, but she had me chuckling. There was nothing to do but get out of bed and feed her.
Lauren took a walk while waiting on me to wake up,. After he left, I heard loud singing that sounded like it was coming from the parking lot. A phone call to Lauren confirmed, that there is someone singing in the parking lot. This person was barefooted, holding a book, pacing, and singing at the top of his lungs. Hmmm!!
We made a morning visit to the Fontainebleau Trail. We found a lot of cool plants and critters while collecting the phenology data.
We took a detour through Browns Trail on the way back to Camp. Not only did we see Nana and Coco, we saw our 2nd American Kestrel of the season.
We sat around birding at Camp this afternoon. The Yellow-bellied sapsucker has returned, although we did not get a picture.
Lauren was an early bird again Monday morning, getting a walk in while I was lazing around. We got the mowing done, relaxed a while, then made a loop around the trail.
Tuesday, we have another transplant bloom in the native plant garden, a Pineland Hibiscus.
We got our nature stroll in before we got the Billy Goat out. We got a good work out while blowing the pine straw off of the pavement.
While relaxing at Camp Crane, we finally got a picture of the Yellow-bellied Sapsucker.
Lauren got Amber out and polished her up a little bit, then went for a short spin. It is too hot to ride today, but it looks like we will have good riding weather before long.
Ferny Kat appears to be having wanderlust as she explored this afternoon.
We worked on patching the HQ pen Wednesday after getting our stroll in. The Narrowleaf Sunflowers were very pretty in the native plant garden this morning.
The noisy Marsh Wren caught our attention as we were walking along Crane Lane.
The Blue Birds were in a bug feeding frenzy in the HQ savanna.
We went to pick up trash at Firetower this afternoon. We saw 10 Sandhill Cranes that were not in the mood for a Kodak moment.
We enjoyed our excursion, taking pictures of critters and flowers. It has been a while since we have seen the Appalachian Blazing Star in bloom.
GREG and a friend were fishing at the Firetower Pond. The friend was not as skittish as GREG, allowing us a great photo op.
We got our 2 mile stroll in Thursday morning. We thought about going to Crossroads today, but instead, we took advantage of this pretty day to clean and sun the rugs in the camper.
Lauren got a stroll in along the Dees Trail Friday morning with an Eagle fly over before we headed to Crossroads. I need to step up to the plate and quit lazing around in the morning!!
