South Texas Road Trip 2021 (1-7-21 - 1-10-21) First few days

Thursday morning, we had a surprise visit from Anita when she came over to drink coffee with us. It was a great start to the day!!

We packed our last minute stuff and pulled out around 10:30 this morning.  It was a dreary, windy day on our short trip of 153 miles to Riverview RV Park in Vidalia, Louisiana.  We are parked on site number 35, overlooking the mighty Mississippi River.

We have another Ferny Kat approved campsite.  We all enjoyed looking out the window watching the barges in the river from the warmth of our camper.

Lauren and I were enticed outside when we sighted a red fox squirrel. We found more red fox squirrels, along with black fox squirrels, and reddish/blackish fox squirrels.  We didn't notice the cold wind with our hoodies on until we turned to go back to the camper.  Needless to say, we are in for the rest of the day.

Our second day was a much longer travel day.  We drove 276 miles to Hillcrest RV Park in New Waverly, Texas.  It is a nice, quiet place to spend the night.

As we were drinking our coffee Saturday morning, we watched 3 Northern Flickers feasting in a Popcorn Tree.

We drove 172 miles and are parked at Ace RV and Storage in Yoakum, Texas.  There was only one RV spot available, which we plan to occupy for the next couple of days to wait out the 100% chance of rain/wintery mix that will be here tomorrow. The fellow campers and the couple that owns the place are super nice.

One of our bucket list species for this trip is to see Crested Caracaras.  We saw 3 on our drive over.  Lauren managed to get a picture of a couple of them flying that were far away.

There were several other birds hanging at the park that caught our attention as well.

There are also a couple of cats hanging around.  One of them must be Ferny Kat's distant cousin.

The meteorologists were right when they predicted 100% chance of rain with a wintery mix for Sunday.  We had light showers all day with occasional light sleet.

We took advantage of the free laundry at the RV park then made a Wally World run.  We had a good ole Sunday dinner and played on the computers for the rest of the day.  We should be well rested for our travel day tomorrow.
