Monday, we hiked the Fountainebleu Trail. Not a lot of exciting blooms, but a nice walk.
We made a tour around to see if we could find any more baby cranes.
We watched Dougie and his mate foraging at the end of the pond. We thought their nest must have failed, then we saw the tiny hatch-ling. Dougie pulled up some vegetation and made a hole in the ground. Little Bit went into the hole just a digging for food. His little beak was covered with dirt. So cute.
The twins were still hanging with their parents near the nest. The have really grown in a couple of days.
We made a walk around the Dees Trail then did our usual birding at Camp Crane. The Hummingbirds are getting aggressive and buzz us when we are sitting outside. We had a new visitor today, a Yellow-billed Coco.
Tuesday, it was a nice, cool, morning in the 50's when we got up this morning. We walked a mile in a little over 15 minutes this morning. We would have made our goal but we got distracted by a Sandhill Crane flying way above us calling. He must have been enjoying the drafts on this windy day.
We leisurely walked the Dees Trail and enjoyed the blooms, birds, and such. We found another beautiful orchid blooming, Small Coastal Plain Spreading Pogonia.
Dikkop and Auk flew over the trail then landed in the savanna behind the VC. Later in the afternoon, NV 11 came to get a snack.
Wednesday, we had another walk around kind of day today. We saw Red headed Woodpeckers and a beautiful huge moth while walking the Dees Trail. Crane Lane was not as busy with butterflies since it was mowed yesterday. Bye, bye pretty wildflower blooms.
We had a guy stop by to report he had saw 2 babies with a pair of Cranes. We checked it out and only found Dougie and his mate with the 1 baby. Maybe there is another couple of Cranes hanging here???
We checked on the other family and both babies are doing good. We also saw some Black-bellied Whistling Ducks at the edge of the pond.
We sat behind the camper to get out of the cold wind this afternoon. Hummy was not very happy with us sitting so close to his feeder and kept buzzing us. He sounds like the lightsaber Luke Skywalker uses in Star Wars.
The squirrels entertained Ferny this afternoon. They were trying to lure her away from their feeder. She held her ground!
Thursday, it was time for Ferny Kat to take a ride. She was so happy traveling to Crossroads. We even took a different route home and she didn't fuss.
I spruced up the house a little bit. Lauren got the oil changed in his truck and pulled weeds out of the ditch. We got our chores done, then sat outside watching bunches of butterflies, bees, and the bluebirds going in and out to their nest feeding their babies. Ferny Kat sure did enjoy her freedom of going in and out of the house. Such a quiet and peaceful afternoon.
Friday, we slept until 8 am this morning. Very unusual for us and Ferny Kat. We took a walk in the woods behind our house. We found a few blooms and such to take pictures of.
We raked leaves, then sat outside bird watching until the rain started.
Saturday, we got our chores done, and then some, at Crossroads. We headed back to Camp Crane. Ferny Kat was not near as excited to go somewhere as she was the other day. She slept all the way back.
The Winecups that we planted in the native garden are beautiful.
We made a walk on the Dees Trail along with a lot of other people. Since this Covid 19 there has been so much more people walking the trail.
We found our first Savanna Meadowbeauty bloom of the year. Maybe we will get some much needed rain tomorrow to help our drought stricken plants.
We sat around this afternoon, doing a little arm chair birding, and talking with Judy and Terry. Ferny Kat got her nap in and joined us. She loves to torment the squirrels and birds by laying under the bird feeder, which saves us money in bird feed.
