10-18-17 - (Day 79 - Stonehenge II Ride)

We were supposed to get up early enough this morning to get our blog and pictures done from yesterday.  The Ferny Kat Alarm clock must be on Mountain Time.  It was after 8 o'clock before she woke us up.

It took a while to get our tired butts going today.  We missed breakfast and had lunch before we departed.

It was another surprise trip today.  I was too far behind on yesterday to figure out what we were going to do today.   Luckily, I am married to my own personal travel guide.

It was another pretty, light jacket required, ride today.  We went to Stonehenge II and walked under the monument.  We have not only gone to a remake of the London Bridge but to Stonehenge on this adventure.

The ride to Stonehenge II was awesome.  There were so many dips and curves, I thought we were on a roller coaster ride, while riding along the Guadalupe River.

We rode a short distance back on the Texas Twisted Sisters and made our way on the country roads, looking at deer and big horn sheep ranches.

After a gorgeous sunset we are calling it a night.

10-17-17 - (Day 78 - Luckenbach and Lyndon B. Johnson National Park)

Lauren did a great job of mapping out our ride today.  I usually Google his planned trips beforehand.  I decided today that I wanted to be surprised.   I was not disappointed.

We stopped at Luckenbach, looked around and listened to live music.  It was very unique.  And no, Willie and Waylon were not there, Dang it.

Our next stop was the Lyndon B. Johnson State and National Park.  We ate our picnic lunch, then visited the Sauer-Beckmann Farm, a living/history museum farm in the State Park.  It is the home of the midwife that assisted with LBJ's birth.  We walked through the barn, blacksmith shop, and the house and saw sheep, chickens, roosters, and a hog while walking the grounds.

Riding in the working LBJ Ranch in the National Park was awesome. There were deer, cows, horses, donkeys, goats, and buffalo in the pastures.

We were able to actually walk inside and look at Air Force "One Half".  Pretty Cool!

Many of the Johnson's cars were on display, along with a golf cart, fire truck, Amphicar, and an All Terrain Hunting Vehicle that was equipped with a wet bar and gun rack.

We had a very informative, walking tour of the Texas White House. Unfortunately, we could not take photos. We learned a lot of personable things about LBJ and Lady Bird Johnson. Very Impressive!

Our last stop was the cemetery where LBJ and Lady Bird are buried.

It was a nice 8 hour day riding the Hill Country of Texas today.  It was cool enough to need a light jacket.  We had so much fun today that Amber's head lights came on before we got home.  It is very unusual for us to be on the road at dark.

10-16-17 (Day 77 - Hondo, Texas)

We made another easterly, 150 mile move today to Alamo Area Skp Co-Op near Hondo, Texas.  Another Escapee Park.  We are here for a week.

The morning view at Pecos River High Bridge Rest Area was beautiful, Blue Bird skies with a slight breeze.  Nothing like the howling wind of yesterday.

We took our time, stopped for a nice picnic lunch at a rest area about 50 miles from here.  We were just a little haunted riding by the mesquite trees, the same kind that got our camper roof last year at Big Bend.

We have left the rocky desert and are enjoying the beautiful leafy trees and green grass.  My favorite color today is GREEN!

Ferny Kat came out to check out her concrete pad.  She loves the concrete as much as she loves the grass.

A couple of grilled burgers later, we are watching the numerous air TV channels.  We will motor around on Amber tomorrow.

10-15-17 - (Day 76 - Pecos River High Bridge Rest Area)

It was cold, windy,  and rainy this morning.  It was 46 degrees with a feel like temperature of 38.  We waited around this morning, hoping the wind would slow before we left Marfa.  It didn't happen.

A few miles down the road, we got in the hills and got some relief from the wind.  It rained on and off for most of the way.

You know you are close to Mexico when you pass a Border Patrol every few miles on Highway 90.

We are boondocking at the Pecos River High Bridge Rest Area in Comstock, Texas.  Our campsite has a beautiful view of the high bridge and the river. 

It was windy, sunny, with the temperature in the 70's when we arrived.  What a difference a 183 miles makes.

This afternoon,we waited for the wind to die down so we could grill outside, again, that didn't happen.  We watched a revised version of The Beverly Hillbillies on Roku.

Ferny Kat decided to check out the top of the bedroom slide, being it wasn't slid out.  That Dang Cat can always find a new adventure.

The sunset was amazing tonight.  We were also amazed as  how many buzzards that can roost under the bridge.

10-14-17 - (Day 75 - Marfa, Texas)

We traveled 239 miles easterly today.  We had a great day of traveling, although it seemed like forever because we stopped at Walmart, stopped for our lunch, and stopped at the slowest fuel station ever in Van Horn.  At least it was a pretty day and we weren't in a hurry.

We stopped for lunch at a very busy rest area.  It was the neatest bathrooms in a rest area we ever seen

We are boon docking tonight at the Marfa Light Viewing Area.  We are not opening the slides and we are keeping the blinds open so we can have a clear view out our bedroom window

We were here last year to see the lights.  We learned last year to get here and eat early.  This way we don't have to use lanterns to eat, so we  don't distract others with our camper lights on.  I didn't see any Marfa Lights last year, Lauren thinks he did, but by the time he woke me up they were gone.  Hmmmm!  We will see what happens tonight.

Ferny Kat got excited as soon as we got to the Town of Marfa.  I do believe she remembers familiar territory.   As soon as we parked, she started meowing to go outside.  She came out, ate green grass, which she hasn't seen for a while. After her graze, she decided to go back in and explore the small space between the wall and the slide.  Dang Cat!!

The parking lot filled at dusk.  Ferny Kat wanted in on the action and came outside and laid on a big rock.  She received a lot of attention from the other viewers.  As usual, she ignored them.

It was a really dark night.  The stars were gorgeous.  We kept looking and looking and finally we saw several colored lights dancing in the dark horizon.  They were gone as fast as they appeared.  It was eerie and phenomenal all at the same time!

10-13-17 - (Day 74 - Vado, New Mexico)

We continued in our Easterly direction for 248 miles today to Western Sky's RV Park  in Vado, New Mexico.

It was a beautiful day.  Shortly after getting on I 10 this morning, we saw some amazing big rocks along the interstate.  There was a lot more greenery the further we traveled.

Ferny Kat missed her day long nap yesterday and was in an ill mood today.  Hopefully, she will rest up this afternoon and be in a better mood for our travels tomorrow

10-12-17 - (Day 73 - Benson, Arizona)

After a 302 mile trek East, we are at Red Barn Campground.  We called a few campgrounds on the way over here, as usually, we had to leave a message.  On our way into the curvy, gravel road, that Lauren thought, I don't think we need to go here, I got a call back from Red Barn Campground.

There was another camper ahead of us when we entered the campground.  The owner was a hoot and a half.  We both got a pull thru Passport America campsite.  It's not a resort, but we don't
need a resort.

We sat around at the back side of the camper, near the interstate, hoping for a pretty sunset.  That didn't happen.

I concocted our dinner tonight using Macaroni and Cheese and left over chicken, along with some sauteed onions.  Pretty darn tasty.

Ferny Kat wanted to come out tonight, but hesitated.  It's probably a good thing being there are desert stickers and a stray black cat that came over to check out our cooking.
